Street Advent. A 25 street art countdown to Christmas.

Christmas has come early this year... Streetadvent.com is giving you a very generous 25 artists, and they're not expecting anything in return. They have been selected as part of this project which sees a selection of cities (mostly Melbourne) becoming a canvas for a festive present for your eyes. A street art advent calendar!

Each day, starting yesterday, and running all the way up until the 25th - check out the website to see what new treasures have been unveiled.

Each work will be preceded by a set of clues, encouraging people to go out and find them. Pictures can then be sent in and a the pieces will be tagged on Google maps so you can go and have a look for them if you wish once they've been revealed. Today's pieces (a set of four) can be found in Brunswick!

10 of the artists will have the opportunity to submit a digital print to be sold through the project's online shop - stay tuned for that side of things and get out there and start hunting art!

I'm kicking myself for being so slack and not getting involved. Maybe next year...

It's hard to come to grips with, but these slick sculptures which have been constructed by Korean artist Yong Ho Ji are made from cut up pieces of recycled car tyres. I'm sure to torque about these for good years to come.

The material was deliberately chosen to convey a message about our responsibility to the environment and conservation, especially in relation to animals... well that, and it looks awesome.

Kastner Creative, my new business venture

After five years of doing freelance design under the name Twist Media... I've finally decided it was time to rebrand. I never really liked that name much anyway and the style was was a bit outdated and didn't really allow for me to encompass my artistic endeavours.

Custom Birdman Munny

For my fifth custom toy, I was working towards a new one to enter into the upcoming exhibition at Villain's QV store in Melbourne. For this, it had to be a Munny - so I went with a 7" one as it's what I'm most comfortable with.

It took a while to come up with an idea but once I had it, I had to work pretty quickly to get it done as I only had a week in order to finish it. The sculpture only took me about a day and that was largely thanks to my past experience with using Super Sculpey, but more of a help was a pasta machine my mother donated to me last year. It made light work (and consistent work) of the feathers.

The painting took ages and was all done by hand over the course of about 4-5 nights (late nights...). There's a couple of things I'm not super happy with but then I am a pretty bad perfectionist, and I just have to accept that it has a couple of tiny flaws as there's nothing I can do to fix them now.

As usual I've included some process photos so you can see how it all came together.

Some locations where such performances have taken place include a mountainside of a difficult climb; a forest; in a canoe; while skiing or snowboarding; on top of large bronze statues; in the middle of a street; underwater; in the middle of the M1 Motorway;^[2] whilst parachuting;^[3] and under the ice cover of a lake. Abandoned Soviet Monuments in Yugoslavia

Yugoslavian president Josip Broz Tito commissioned these monuments ("Spomeniks") between the 60s and 70s to commemorate WWII battle sites. They were designed by a number of artists and sculptors to display the strength of the Socialist Republic. They were popular attractions during the 80s but have since lost most of their meaning and symbolism.

These photos were taken by photographer Jan Kempenaers - who also happens to have a 64 page hardcover book containing photos of these monuments for sale.

You probably haven't noticed, but I changed the 'like this on facebook' link at the bottom of each post to a much more useful 'share this link on facebook'. Just recently, Posterous added the option to add the facebook 'like' link to posts, but it's not very functional (in that when it shows up on facebook, you can't add your own text to the post, it doesn't post any photos, and you can't easily share it on your wall or send it as a message to a friend). It also doesn't show up in news feeds of your friends.

Well, after a bit of tinkering, and combining a few bits of code from here and there (can't remember where I found it, somewhere on Google), I managed to get it to work quite well.

If you're using posterous and have a custom theme, chuck this code somewhere in your {block:Posts} section (just replace the existing facebook code if you don't want that anymore).

Why you probably shouldn't take mushrooms.

A U.S. cage fighter ripped out the heart of his training partner while he was still alive after becoming convinced he was possessed by the devil, it was alleged today.

Jarrod Wyatt also cut out Taylor Powell's tongue and ripped off most of his face in a brutal assault that police said looked like a scene from a horror film, officers said. They claim they found the 26-year-old standing naked over his friend's body with parts, including an eyeball, strewn around the blood splattered room in Klamath, California.

Wyatt allegedly told police he had drunk a cup of tea spiked with hallucinogenic mushrooms and became convinced Powell was possessed.

According to an autopsy Powell, 21, bled to death after his heart was ripped out.The coroner said Powell had been alive when the organ was ripped out after his chest had been sliced open with a knife. Wyatt told the police he thrown the heart into a fire along with other organs that he had removed from the body, it was claimed.

He allegedly told investigators he cooked the body parts because he was fearful Powell was still alive and he ‘needed to stop the Devil’.

Police had been called to the grisly scene after a third friend had witnessed a sudden mood change in Wyatt after they had all ingested wild mushroom tea.

Justin Davis told police he returned to the flat to find Wyatt naked and covered from head to toe in blood. He noticed an eyeball lying in the middle of the floor and saw Powell's mutilated body.

A lawyer representing Wyatt has claimed the wild mushrooms caused him to act in such a violent way and had not control over his actions.

‘My client was trying to silence the devil,’ said James Fallman.

‘I think he was having a psychotic fit based on the mushrooms he had.’

Wyatt has been charged with first degree murder and torture. Prosecutors added the torture charge as Powell was still alive when his heart was removed.

NEW YORK—Desperate fans of the recently concluded television series Lost are speculating that the program is continuing on in a parallel dimension somewhere, and that alternate versions of showrunners Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse are currently writing new episodes of the series. "It's very possible that a sideways world running concurrent to our own exists, and that a facsimile of myself is happy, fulfilled, and already gearing up for the season seven premiere of Lost," said 36-year-old Kevin Molinaro, who, along with more than 20 million other hopeless fans, has recently booked multiple roundtrip tickets from Los Angeles to Australia in hopes of traveling through a vortex in the space-time continuum. "I just have to find a way to get there. We all do." According to data from Google analytics, searches for "How to build/detonate/use a hydrogen bomb to open up a multidimensional wormhole" have increased 10 millionfold since the episode aired.

This cat is called Prinny. Its owner forces it to swim as part of some sick fetish, and just look how very unhappy the poor thing is about it all. These were taken at the Mornington Peninsula swim centre just an hour out of Melbourne. Feel free to visit there if you're looking for a way to punish your kitty for scratching the back of your couch up so bad. This just goes to show that cats and water don't mix well, unless it's in a stock pot with carrots, celery, onions and a bouqet garni.

Local Natives are an indie rock band based in Silver Lake, Los Angeles, USA. Their debut album, Gorilla Manor, was released in the UK on Nov 2nd, 2009, and will see a US release date of Feb. 16th, 2010. The band’s sound has been described as “afropop-influenced guitars with hyperactive drumming and hooky three-part harmonies”. They started to attract the attention of the music press after playing nine shows at the 2009 SXSW festival in Austin, Texas.
